My psychotherapy practice involves guiding patients as they confront and process the uncomfortable thoughts, feelings and behavior patterns that disrupt their lives. I strive to approach each patient with openness, curiosity, and a commitment to understanding their unique cultural and personal context and I engage in ongoing learning to support inclusive, affirming care. Psychanalysis is central to my approach to mental health issues, offering insights and techniques that keep me clinically grounded, creative and emotionally available. It also allows the potential for me to concurrently incorporate other therapeutic approaches which complement my practice, such as AF-EMDR. AF-EMDR is a powerful and effective tool either as a primary modality or in combination with ongoing psychotherapy for processing and decreasing the impact of upsetting or traumatic memories and experiences that continue to impact daily life. I participate in regular individual and group consultation to strengthen my application of AF-EMDR, including the utilization of various protocols to address clinical issues. I have completed a certificate program at NYU’s Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis and am currently completing coursework to enhance my treatment of complex trauma and dissociative disorders, as well as training in clinical hypnosis. I have over two decades of clinical experience. Before I went into fulltime private practice, I worked as the staff psychologist at the AIDS Center Program of a NYC public hospital as well as at a community clinic through which I participated in Project Liberty, which provided free mental health services to people affected by the 9/11/2001 terrorist attacks. I am excited about integrating AF-EMDR into my work as I have witnessed its invaluable contribution to the healing process.
