Bio

My work is informed by the neuroscience of trauma and attachment, the work of Dr. Brene Brown (shame resilience), the mind-body connection and the power of mindfulness and compassion practices. I am warm and supportive but also firm and active when appropriate. In addition to years as a therapist, I have extensive experience as a mindfulness practitioner and trainer, a clinical supervisor and behavioral health educator and believe that providing knowledge and education is a critical part of psychotherapy.

As an engaged and integrative therapist for both individuals and couples, I offer quality, lasting treatment that incorporates somatic experiences, relational styles, cognitive processes and skill development. We begin by establishing a safe, secure and collaborative relationship as a base for exploration and healing. Mindfulness and mind-body practices allow us to gain a deeper understanding of current and historic struggles. Attachment Focused EMDR and TRM provide opportunities for trauma re-processing and integration. Cognitive work, mindfulness practices and empowering psycho-education help develop skills and practices that allow for a greater sense of self-awareness, self-efficacy and self-confidence. Through our ongoing work, you will have the opportunity to know and utilize your existing strengths and resources, re-process and re-integrate trauma and develop skills and practices so you can live an authentic, wholehearted and courageous life.

I graduated from Harvard with a dual degree in psychology and government and from USC with a MSW in Social Work. As a life-long learner, I have pursued extensive post-graduate education in mindfulness and somatic modalities. I am a trained trauma therapist (EMDR and TRM) as well as a Certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) facilitator, a trained Mindful Self Compassion (MSC) facilitator, a Mentor for UC San Diego Mindfulness-Based Certification Programs and a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator (based on the work of Dr. Brene Brown).

I have a deep commitment to inclusivity and respect for all people and welcome diverse populations in my practice. A portion of my practice is low-fee to make high quality therapy available to those who many not be able to afford it. Please feel free to contact me through my website www.racheldonaldsonwellness.com or leave a message for me at (310) 463 6484.
