Bio
Lorraine Caputo is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with an MSW from Smith College School for Social Work. She has been in clinical practice for over 30 years and works with young and older adults as well as couples; specializing in childhood traumas, physical and sexual abuse, emotional and physical neglect as well as recent traumas such as sexual assault, rape, and accidents. Lorraine Caputo is also interested and has experience in the trauma of grief and loss. She has a special interest in working with parents with trauma histories and the transgenerational transmission of trauma. She has worked extensively with women with postpartum depression and anxiety and is a former member of the Postpartum Support International (PSI) Board and a former Coordinator of the PSI Warmline for postpartum mothers. A graduate of the Manhattan Institute for Psychoanalysis (MIP) and of the MIP Certificate Program in Trauma Studies, she has been a Director of the MIP Certificate program in Trauma Studies for 6 years. She has completed both the basic EMDR training and the EMDR Advanced Clinical Workshop with Laurel Parnell. In addition she is trained in IPT (Interpersonal Psychotherapy) treatment of depression (at the University of Pittsburgh), a short term model that treats depression from the perspective of interpersonal relationships.
Lorraine works hard to create a safe environment for her patients to process their history of trauma. She feels trust is the first and most basic stage of any treatment, but especially, in the treatment of patients with trauma histories. She takes her time in pacing the treatment of trauma and feels confident in her ability to assess her patients readiness for EMDR. Her training as a relational psychoanalyst and as an Attachment EMDR therapist enhance her work overall. She brings warmth, empathy, and wisdom born of 30 years of professional experience and many more than 30 years of living life in this world.
