Bio
For the past 40 years, Dr. Hans Selvog developed expertise in forensic social work, focusing on sentencing advocacy and mitigation development, and a parallel practice as a psychotherapist, delivering direct therapeutic services to teenagers and adults.
Since 2009, Dr. Selvog established a private psychotherapeutic practice in Los Angeles; achieved certification as an Integrative Body Psychotherapy (IBP) therapist and teacher, in 2012 and 2015 respectively; attained EMDRIA Approved EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Basic Training as a practitioner in 2017; completed Parnell Institute Approved EMDR Basic Training as an Attachment-focused EMDR practitioner in February 2023; and has taught Research Methods for Social Work as an adjunct professor to graduate students at the School of Social Work—University of Southern California (USC).
Attachment-focused EMDR (AF-EMDR) is client-centered and emphasizes a reparative therapeutic relationship using a combination of (1) Resource Tapping (Parnell, 2008) to strengthen clients and repair developmental deficits, (2) EMDR to process traumas, and (3) talk therapy to help integrate the information from EMDR sessions and to provide the healing derived from therapist-client interactions. Integrative Body Psychotherapy (IBP) is a somatic, mind-body approach that helps individuals take charge of their lives and increase confidence, energy, and well-being. By integrating the mind and body, a person gets to the root of their problems quickly while achieving deeper, long-lasting success in their relationships and careers. IBP mental health tools help clients reduce stress, develop self-love and empathy, and achieve one’s aspirations.
Dr. Selvog enjoys engaging with teenagers, adults, and couples by assisting them to manage and overcome relationship and social problems that are undermined by anxiety, depression, phobias, stress, addictions, and the consequences of trauma and abuse.
Dr. Selvog offers a nurturing, safe, and comfortable clinical setting with free off-street parking. As a former musical artist, he welcomes those desiring to embody their full-creative potential, as well as those involved with the criminal justice system and those struggling with major life changes and/or loss.
